Bad Moon Rising

 There are very disturbing events ongoing in the US.

Among them the the militarization of large cities by the national guard, and the building up of a heavily armed, masked,  and unaccountable national police force- ICE. 

The official excuse for these actions makes no sense: the clumsy persecution and silencing of the President's political opposition, reminiscent of Generalisimo Franco's actions in Spain or Stalin's brutal suppression in Russia ; and deportation of "illegal immigrants" (hispanics) similiar to Hitler's initial purging of Jews from Germany. 

But both those are so absurdly ham handed, stupid,  and hugely unpopular that no democratically elected polititian would dare do them. It would normally be polititical suicide and result in removal from office and legal actions. Yet here we are. 

At the same time the democratically elected representatices in Congress are dismissed and are apparently indefinitely furloughed by the Speaker of the House...the third in line for sucession to the Presidency. 

This is alarming.

Historically such events have been the tools used to create dictatorships.

Add to this scenario the acceleration of transfer of wealth and power from the People to a small group of oligarchs- facilitated via economic policies imposed by the President and loyalist Republicans. Tax cuts for billionaires and layoffs/firings for workers, tarriffs that make goods more expensive for common folk while billionaire cronnies recieve government contracts.

And while food , healthcare, housing, electricity subsidies for Americans are cut away a ballroom is being built to entertain the billionaires.

This sounds like some conspiracy fiction. But those things are clearly visible to all.

What I cannot fathom is why the Republican party and "conservatives" are supporting all this. 

Surely they cant all be so paid off or in such fear of one aged demented narcissist that they are willingly allowing- cooperating- in the creation of an authoritarian oligarchy, a police state where there are rich masters and poor workers, a third world plantation state.

Yet here we are.

What I can grasp is the reason for brutal militarization of large cities at this very time. That is because the predictable reaction to the realization by hundreds of millions of Americans that they are too poor to afford food or housing will provoke riots.

And coming at the season of turkey dinners, festivities, and present giving that have been traditional, but now will be possible only for the rich, will anger desperate hungry people, and produce riots.

But that is where we are about to be.

And that is why, I believe, armed agents of state are being placed in large cities. 

So Merry Fucking Christmas from Donald Trump, Mike Johnson, and the billionaires.
